Apple AirPods Pro Review: Apple’s Next-Level AirPod

Apple AirPods Pro

AirPods have been one of Apple’s most successful products ever. Since the launch of the first pair in 2016, Apple has pretty consistently been scrambling to keep up with demand. Now Apple unveiled its new AirPods Pro wireless earbuds earlier on Monday, October 28. The AirPods Pro feature a new design and active noise cancellation. AirPods Pro will be available for purchase starting October 30th.

Here are all the details of AirPods Pro wireless earbuds

Apple AirPods Pro

The basic design is similar – a charging socket in the base and a hinged lid, and it charges via Lightning cable just as previous AirPods did. This time the cable in the box is Lightning to USB-C rather than to USB-A.

The AirPod Pro headphones are considerably different in design to the AirPods. The most noticeable difference is the inclusion of silicone tips to improve the fit or ‘seal’, while the thin rod that hangs out of your ear is now much shorter.

Apple says its silicon tips have been specially designed to be extra comfortable for wearing without feeling like there’s something weighing on your ear.

Although they are very slightly heavier than previous AirPods, they don’t feel heavy, not least because more of the unit sits in the ear.

The finish is slicker, smoother and more high- end, all gloss apart from one matte panel which is the touch-sensitive panel that we’ll come to shortly.

The big new features of the AirPods Pro is active noise-cancelling technology(ANC), using the in-built microphones to check the ambient noise around you over 200 times a second and react accordingly. This is the same process as other noise-cancelling headphones, designed to avoid wind tear and other real-time sounds around you as best as possible.

You can also dial-down the feature if you want to hear more around you – a feature called Transparency – which allows you to hear people talking, given the frequency cut-off. This is all controlled via a squeeze of the AirPods Pro, via your iPhone volume control settings, or the Apple Watch..

Apple has added a ‘transparency’ mode, letting you dial out the noise cancelling to filter in sounds from the outside world should you wish or need to. The function uses that pressure-equalising vent system coupled with software tweaks to keep a small amount of noise cancellation active, so a user supposedly hears their own voice sounds naturally while audio plays.

Switching between active noise cancelling and transparency is done directly on AirPods Pro using a new force sensor on the stem. Perhaps dropping the tap system altogether, which was easy to get wrong, this squeeze command is also used to play, pause or skip tracks and answer or hang up phone calls. You also get quick pairing and Siri functions thanks to the inclusion of the H1 chip already in the previous models.

Battery life

Nothing new here. The new AirPods Pro have the same battery life as the old ones. That’s five hours from the buds and another 19 hours of juice in the case. If you have noise-canceling or Transparency on, you can knock half an hour off the time.

Audio Quality

JBL Reflect Flow wireless headphones deliver a powerful audio performance with rich, deep bass and crisp highs for a great listening experience, regardless of the music genre.

The strong bass depth may be a boon or a bane, depending on the listener’s preference. While the inaccurate sound signature (that comes off as a bit artificial) of the boosted bass might be a dealbreaker for purists, it could be an advantage for gym rats who are motivated by thunderous bass during workouts.

The JBL Reflect Flow’s 5.8mm drivers deliver a powerful punch with a dynamic frequency response range of 20Hz to 20kHz.

The JBL Reflect Flow use the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard, which means better transmission distances if you have a smartphone that’s compatible with version 5.0 of the wireless standard. There’s support for SBC and AAC audio codecs, which is great news for users of Apple iOS devices and is now also supported by the latest versions of Android. There’s no support for the apt-X codec, so that could be a deal-breaker for some people.

The Reflect Flow’s mic offers solid intelligibility. When someone calls you while you’re wearing a pair of JBL True Wireless headphones, the person on the other line will more likely understand what you’re saying.

Design and Build Quality

The JBL Reflect Flow available in black, blue, green, or teal models, the Reflect Flow earpieces have a large but lightweight build.

The new JBL Reflect Flow earphones are housed in a chunky rectangular charging case and are available in either black and cerulean color accents.

With an IPX7 rating, the JBL Reflect Flow headphones are waterproof and sweatproof. They can withstand immersion in water up to 1-meter deep for up to 30 minutes.

This means the waterproof earphones are protected when you’re wearing them while jogging in the rain, or when you have to rinse it quickly to remove dirt. However, The JBL headphones are not safe for swimming. The charging case isn’t waterproof as well.

The Reflect Flow has two key features: the Ambient Aware and TalkThru technologies. Ambient Aware allows you to hear the surroundings while listening to music for safety purposes. The TalkThru feature lets you carry on a conversation without having to remove your Reflect Flow earphones. Just a touch of a button lowers the volume, so you can hear clearly what the other person is saying.

Fit And Battery Life

The Reflect Flow comes bundled with three different-sized ear tips made of silicon. The package also includes another trio of Freebit enhancers, which are essentially ear wings that fit over the earbuds and secure them in the ears.

The JBL Reflect Flow can play for up to 30 hours using the recharging function of the storage case. The earbuds will play for up to 10 hours on a single charge before they need to be put back in the case for a complete recharge.

The case holds enough charge for a further 20 hours of listening, which is more than enough for a week’s worth of commuting. Even better, a quick 10-minute top-up in the case will provide an hour’s worth of listening time, sufficient for a run around the park or a decent bike ride.

Sleek and Portable Design: Apollo Max is two times smaller than a traditional 10,000 mAh fast charging power bank. So it fits in virtually any pocket or bag. It easily goes with you anywhere and a quick charge is enough to satisfy your daily power needs for all your devices.

Quick Recharges in Just 19 Minutes: Unlike other power banks that can take up to 5 hours to recharge, Apollo Max uses a 100W USB-C PD input to fully recharge within 19 minutes. This ultra-fast “charge-and-go” feature gives you peace of mind and frees you from the anxiety that running out of power can cause.

10,000 mAh Capacity for All Day Power: 10,000 mAh is the most popular capacity for portable power banks. This will generally give you a couple of days’ worth of smartphone charges and normally cover your all-day usage for a few devices.

However, many people go with a smaller capacity because they feel that a typical 10,000 mAh battery pack takes up too much space and is heavy to carry. That’s where Apollo Max comes in.

It’s compact and lightweight with a dimensional footprint about the size of a typical smartphone. It makes the perfect companion to let you go farther, do more and stay charged.

60W USB-C Power Delivery: Apollo Max has a 60W USB-C Power Delivery output to quickly charge your MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, Nintendo Switch, and any number of laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other electronic devices that use the popular USB-C port.

18W USB-A Quick Charge: Apollo Max also supports up to 18W of Quick Charge 3.0 capability through its USB-A port for devices such as iPhone 11 Pro, iPad, Kindle, GoPro, you name it!
