Samsung Galaxy M40 Initial Review:A Samartphone With Infinity-O Display

Samsung has just released the Galaxy M40 budget smartphone and it shares one distinctive feature in common with the much pricier Galaxy S10 flagship. The Galaxy M40 is the first of Samsung’s budget phones to have the Infinity O display that is, a cutout selfie camera within the borders of the screen just like the Galaxy S10. It’s a nice design flourish that’s sure to attract customers who want the look of a premium device without the hefty price.
Here are all the details of Samsung Galaxy M40 Smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy M40 review:
- 16.00cm (6.3″) FHD + Infinity O Display.
- 7.9mm sleek body and premium dual tone finish.
- Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 675 mobile platform & LPDDR4x RAM.
- 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage.
- 32MP triple rear camera.
- 16MP Front Camera and F2.0 Aperture.
- 4K video recording.
- Screen Sound Technology.
- Samsung One UI based on Android 9 Pie.
- 3,500 mAh Battery.
Samsung is definitely playing up the design card with the Galaxy M40. This is a great looking phone that brings a display hole to a whole new price point. The Infinity-O cutout is similar to what we’ve seen on the Honor View 20 and the Galaxy S10e and presents itself as yet another way to avoid a notch. The display itself looks great and the Full HD+ resolution looks tack-sharp on the 6.3-inch panel. It comes as no surprise that the Galaxy M40 is an incredibly comfortable phone to hold and use. This is a science that Samsung has got down pat. The ergonomics are great and the phone simply slips into your hand like few do in the price range. It helps that the phone weighs a mere 168 grams. On the flip side, it doesn’t look and feel quite as premium. The back of the Galaxy M40 is a fingerprint-magnet and you will find it nearly impossible to keep clean. The ultra-glossy finish reflects light from all angles and has an interesting-looking gradient pattern along the sides. It comes in two color variants – Midnight Blue and Seawater Blue, both of which have gradients of colors.

A completely immersive viewing experience with a near bezel-less 16.0 cm (6.3”) FHD+ Infinity-O display on the Galaxy M40 is the feature which has been highlighted the most by Samsung. Unlike the Galaxy M30 which uses a Samsung Super AMOLED panel, this is an LCD panel with the position of the hole punch identical to the Galaxy A8s – Samsung’s first smartphone with a display cavity. The screen also doubles as a speaker, thereby replacing the earpiece.
The Galaxy M40 features a triple camera setup and it includes a 32MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 5MP depth sensor, and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. The primary sensor on the back also supports features like 4K recording, slo-motion, and hyperlapse in terms of video. The hole punch on the front carries a 16MP selfie camera.
the Samsung Galaxy M40 is powered by the Snapdragon 675 mobile platform paired with 6GB of RAM. The device gets 128GB of internal storage with the option of expanding it to 512GB using a microSD card with the help of a hybrid SIM tray. In terms of battery, the Galaxy M40 is equipped with a 3,500mAh battery and supports 15W fast charging via the USB-C interface. The Galaxy M series recently got updated to One UI based on Android Pie, the Galaxy M40 comes with the latest Android version out-of-the-box. Samsung’s One UI comes with design elements organized to help users easily tap on the clickable elements in the UI without having to use the second hand.
