Design And Display

The new Huawei Watch GT 2 is available is available in three editions – Sport, Classical and Elite. The specs across all three editions are identical, but they have different finishes and straps, from fluorine rubber to leather, to metal.

Huawei Watch GT 2 integrates a high quality 3D glass face to create the bezel-less vision. The right-hand edge of the device has two buttons for interacting with the device, but most of the time you’ll likely find yourself using the touchscreen, which feels smooth under the finger. Huawei Watch GT 2 has lots of specially designed watch faces for you to select and customise. You can choose from traditional or modern digital watch faces and find one that suits your style.

Around the back of the Huawei Watch GT 2 is a slightly raised heart rate monitor, bookended by two POGO pin connectors for charging. There’s a proprietary charging disc that ships with the watch as well as a USB-A to USB-C cable.

There are now two sizes in the range. Last year’s model was a 46 mm diameter watch (with a 22 mm strap) and this year’s offers the same size but a second version scales things down a bit, with a 42 mm option available, too (20 mm strap).

The 46 mm model has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display, with a resolution of 454 x 454, while the 42 mm cuts things back slightly – it’s a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390 x 390.. They’re incredibly crisp.

Huawei used its own wearable processor for the Watch GT 2, the Kirin A1, which also to be found in the new Free Buds 3 true wireless earphones that Huawei launched at IFA 2019 a few weeks back. And there’s also Bluetooth 5.1 on board as well as GPS of course.

You can now receive calls on the watch itself instead of just being able to answer and reject calls on your phone and there’s an integrated speaker and microphone. There are no SIM on board the watch, everything is still done via your phone. Of course, you get all the notifications you want from your phone when it’s connected.

In terms of battery life, The 46 mm model has 455 mAh Battery and it’ll give you 2 weeks of Battery life, and the 42 mm model has 215 mAh Battery and it’ll give you 1 weeks of Battery life.

There’s a proprietary charger as you might expect, but it connects to the actual charger via USB-C so it’s easy to charge the watch from another USB-C device, for example.

The interface, Huawei’s Lite OS is also light and very easy to navigate around. One aspect of using its own operating system is that – the clue’s in the name – it doesn’t need a lot of RAM to operate. In fact, the Huawei Watch GT 2 only have 16 MB (42 mm) or 32 MB of RAM (46 mm). That’s not a typo, we really do mean MB. And clearly it’s frugal on battery, too.

From a health-tracking point of view, Huawei has also included stress monitoring to the mix, as well as a barometer to measure air pressure and detailed sleep tracking too. That’s to compliment the 15 sports tracking modes that don’t seem to throw up anything new on the tracking front. If you like running, cycling or even after something to track your triathlons, you’re going to be covered here.

Music playback is also supported as you’d expect and there is space for 500 songs in total (4GB) and naturally you can connect headphones directly to the watch if you want to go phone-free. The welcome always-on screen mode is not a default and, of course, there will be a knock-on effect on battery life if you enable it.

Honor 20i Review

The Honor 20i’s body is made mostly of plastic, but it does not look cheap or out of place. The Honor 20i includes familiar design elements. The polycarbonate back panel has a glass-finish with a gradient pattern. The phone comes in Gradient Red, Gradient Blue, and Fantasy Black color options. The Honor mobile designers will include a slew of fascinating colors on the back shell of the Honor 20i.

On the front, there is a U-shaped notch at the top center. The charging port is still micro USB and its located alongside the audio jack and speaker grill at the bottom. The back of the Honor 20i is a fingerprint and triple camera setup. On the left side, you’ll find power and volume button.

The Honor 20i has a 6.21-inch screen of a fullHD+ resolution stretched in a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It has on top a tiny waterdrop-shaped notch accommodating the front camera. The screen covers almost the entire front with negligible bezels on the top and left sides and a fairly moderate one at the bottom. The screen is bright and colourful and has good sunlight legibility, too.

Honor 20i Review

The Honor 20i has a triple-camera module on the back, featuring a 24-megapixel primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The rear-camera module is a potent one for everyday point and shoot. It locks focus quickly and captures the picture with minimal shutter lag. The addition of an ultra-wide lens makes Honor 20i a versatile set-up, allowing users to capture more objects in frame without using the panorama mode. For night or lowlight shots, the phone has a dedicated night mode that brightens the scene and captures sufficient detail.

On the front, it has a 32MP selfie camera. The selfie camera, also a capable one, captures good details and has an option to adjust beauty levels. Though the phone processes captured images heavily, most of the photos turn out to be good.

Honor 20i Review

The Honor 20i is powered by a Kirin 710 system-on-chip, mated with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phone boots the Android Pie operating system-based EMUI 9.0.1 user interface, which is a heavily customised skin with value-added features for ease of use.

Having said that, unless you are a hardcore gamer, you’d be perfectly happy with the performance on the Honor 20i. Even heavy games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 are playable on the phone. GPU Turbo 2.0 further ensures that supported titles, PUBG being one of them, have smooth gameplay. The operating system seems optimised as it works flawlessly. The OS supports Huawei’s gesture-based navigation, which, different from what the Android offers, is one of the best among Android-based smartphones.

A fingerprint sensor is one of the easiest and most secure ways to protect your smartphone. The proximity sensor detects when a user is holding the phone near their face during a call and turns off the display to prevent keypad presses and battery consumption from the display. The Honor 20i has Dual SIM capability, which means that you can insert two different SIM cards and use them both from one phone.

Powering the phone is a 3,400 mAh battery, which is good for more than a day under normal usage. The battery supports 10W fast-charging through the supplied charger. It charges the battery from zero to 100 per cent in around two hours, which is decent for a phone in this segment.

Honor 20i is 3G and 4G capable. This smartphone has a built-in GPS receiver. GPS is a satellite based navigation system that allows the determination of the exact geographical location on Earth. The Honor 20i comes with Near Field Communications (NFC) functionality for transferring content with other NFC-enabled devices. This Huawei smartphone has FM radio receiver.
